Bring Voice & App Control to KNX—Without Sacrificing Local Reliability
Satish Kumar

Smart-building professionals, installers and architects keep asking a simple question:

“Can I add Siri, Google Assistant or Alexa to my KNX project without risking reliability?”

With 1Home Server the answer is yes. All Logic runs locally in the 1Home Server and talks to the KNX bus, while you unlock slick dashboards, Matter interoperability and every major voice assistant.

Why voice & app control matters for KNX projects ?

End-user expectations: Clients now expect the same one-tap scenes and voice shortcuts they enjoy on wireless IoT gear.

Installer differentiation: Offering a polished mobile UI and voice control helps your KNX proposal stand out—Daily control is cloud-free; remote ETS access is available via an optional secure cloud tunnel.

Longevity: Matter is backed by Apple, Google, Amazon & Co.; bridging KNX to that ecosystem protects a decades-long investment.

Meet 1Home Server

1Home sits between the rock-solid wired KNX backbone and the fast-moving Matter & voice ecosystem, translating in both directions while keeping the brain local.

Choose the flavour that matches your project:

  • Two flavours, same philosophy
  • 1Home KNX Pro, 1Home Voice & Visu

Ecosystem bridge, Connects KNX to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings & Matter—no vendor lock-in, Connects KNX to modern visualisation, app control and voice assistants through Matter

ETS tunnels, 4 × secure KNX IP tunnels for programming & diagnostics, 1 × tunnel for KNX programming & diagnostics

Ideal projects, Villas & apartments that want brand-agnostic voice/app control, Homes that need simple KNX visualisation, mobile app control and voice assistant integration—without changing the KNX backbone

Key benefits at a glance

Local-first: 1Home’s DIN-rail server and Matter links run entirely on the local network, so every automation keeps working—even when the internet doesn’t.

Energy efficiency: KNX schedules still dim lights and optimise HVAC exactly as designed.

Future-proof: The built-in Matter bridge means upcoming Matter-certified lights, sensors and gadgets snap straight in—no extra hubs, no rewiring.

Deployment tips for installers

Wiring: Mount the DIN-rail server next to the KNX power supply; CAT-6 to the LAN switch; power via 24 V DC.

ETS set-up: Import group addresses with 1Home’s AI parser, then expose the channels you want in Apple Home / Google Home. You can refine later without downtime.

Security: Enable password-protected tunnels and TLS; optionally block WAN access at the firewall—voice assistants work via local bridges.

Testing: Use the 1Home web dashboard to simulate occupancy, verify scenes, and confirm Matter endpoints before hand-over.
