No hardware, no limits
Most automation platforms max out at "if this, then that." 1Home just removed that ceiling, with built-in Lua scripting inside 1Home Automations — a real programming layer sitting on top of a KNX-native platform.
What that actually unlocks:
Sunrise simulation, without buying a sunrise lamp. A short script ramps brightness from 0 to 100% over any duration you set, producing a natural wake-up effect that used to require dedicated hardware. Now it's a for-loop with a pause between steps.
Live weather on the KNX bus, with zero extra sensors. The script pulls temperature, wind speed, and current conditions from a free API — Open-Meteo, for instance — and writes those values directly to the KNX bus on a schedule, say once a minute. No physical weather station to buy, mount, wire, or maintain on a roof somewhere.
Custom logic, on your terms. Value conversions between protocols, conditional processing, calculations before a command fires — the kind of requirement that used to mean "sorry, this platform can't do that" now just means writing ten lines of script.
You don't need to already know how to program
The built-in editor ships with a syntax template, dedicated helpers for KNX read/write operations, time functions, HTTP and JSON support, and the ability to test and log scripts directly inside the platform. If Lua isn't a language you already know, a tool like ChatGPT can draft the script for you to test and refine — the barrier to entry is closer to "describe what you want" than "learn a new language from scratch."
Where it's available, and why that matters for project delivery
Lua scripting is available today on 1Home System Manager and Server KNX Pro. For integrators, that means more sophisticated project requirements can be met inside the platform, faster — without waiting on a hardware vendor's next product release to add a feature that a ten-line script can already deliver.
